West Bromich Albion F.C. History: (1920 – 1925)

In 1920-21, it was to be expected that the next season would be something of an anti-climax a repetition of the previous league-winning season would have required quite heroic efforts. The team was living on its reputation, as is so often the case with champions out to hang on to their title, drawing the first four games although only losing three of the first sixteen. The team was never really convincing even during this spell, suffering from a lack of goals something which had not been lacking in the previous season, with only three goals coming from the centre-forward position in the first twenty games. The Cup run ended before they had begun, in the first round, as Notts County, relegated the year before gained revenge for the eight goals put past them at the Hawthorns by by winning 3-0.
In the 1921-22 season the gradual slide down the table continued, Notts County struck again in the Cup, winning in the third round after a replay after Albion had done well to beat Chelsea and Liverpool that year's champions, away from home,. The centre-forward problem was solved in November. The solution was the acquisition of a tried and tested forward, Welsh international Stanley Davies, 'Mr Versatility', from Everton. In his six years, this highly skilful and effective number nine scored eighty-three goals in 150 first-team appearances, revitalizing the team, not only by scoring his much needed goals but also by linking well with Morris, who refound his scoring touch playing alongside the Welshman.West Bromiwich Albion ended at 13th in the table with 40 points.
When the 1922-23 season began, improvements in results were generally expected as the new players settled in, but there was soon a major setback when winger Claude Jephcott, playing great games at the peak of his form suffered a fractured ankle in the match at Aston Villa, exactly a year after a similar injury at Middlesbrough, forcing his very premature retirement from the game. Young players were drafted in as replacements, the spot being shared by two youngsters, Spencer and Tommy Glidden, whilst Pennington's place was satisfactorily filled by William Adams and Tommy Magee was brought back at right-half after a lengthy absence from first-team reckoning, Sam Richardson dropping back into the reserves for a spell. The Albion did start to produce some better form that year and the final league position of seventh was a considerable improvement over the previous two years.
1923-24 season ,the Cup brought back memories of the previous seasons defeat at Charlton when the draw cast the team at Millwall's Den, but a goal from Joe Carter decided an always close confrontation. Old friendly opponents Corinthians, who in recent years had made the decision to enter the Cup despite their strictly amateur status, were the next in line and went away from West Bromwich beaten 5-0 , a result which enabled the renewal of the old Cup rivalry with Staffordshire neighbours Wolverhampton Wanderers, who were then leading the Third Division. The teams finished level at the Hawthorns, with Tug Wilson equalizing direct from a free-kick in the last quarter of an hour the same player missing a last minute chance to settle the tie from the penalty spot, although Wilson and Gregory won the replay in front of a new Molineux record gate of 40,083 in midweek.
The 1924-25 season was always going to be interesting and the team didn't disappoint. Only three of the players remained who had won medals with the club in 1920 Richardson, Pearson and smith. Any how they finished at 2nd place in the table with 56 points just 2 points below away from Huddersfield Town.

The 2010–11 season was West Bromwich Albion's fifth season in the Premier League. Albion return to the Premier League after being promoted from the Championship.
