West Bromich Albion F.C. History: (1925 – 1930)

1925 - 26 season saw a change in the offside rule, the current law regarding offside was that a player was in an offside position when there were less than three opponents between him and the opposition goal when his side passed the ball forwards ! The new ruling reduced that number to two, giving forwards so much more freedom. Its effect was a dramatic one, adding twenty or thirty goals to the total of each club over those of the previous year. Albion went up from fifty-eight to seventy-nine and this despite dropping eleven places in the table and instead of twenty 'clean sheets' they could only manage eight, conceding an extra forty-four goals. Huddersfield was to make football history with their third successive championship. Finally they finished in 13th place in the table in 1st Division in the FA Cup 4th Round.
1926-7 season would see the loss of Albion's premier status after sixteen profitable years at the top and were thrown at the bottom of the table with only 30 points.1927 -28 season back in the lower section signed Jimmy Cookson who at the time was destined to be easily the best goal-scorer in the history of the club. Cookson began as a full­back with Manchester City, but after failing to make an impression and moving on to Chesterfield in the Third Division he was converted to centre-forward. The season ended in 8th in the Second Division in the table.
